Alex Barnett is a film and TV editor and one of the founding members of The Film Collective. Assistant editor for award-winning Australian feature films BABYTEETH and SISSY, (with 94% and 96% Certified Fresh ratings on Rotten Tomatoes), Alex strives to help Aussie films punch above their weight on the international scene.
The Film Collective are an in-residence creative group at the Powerhouse Museum. Alex has cut commercial, music video and drama projects in the space - such as the short film LEARNING THE CURVATURE OF THE EARTH, winning Best Editing at the Australian Women’s Film Festival.
As well as drama, Alex loves documentary editing - the process of crafting a narrative arc from disparate threads of an interview, finding the needles in the haystack and weaving it all together to invoke an emotional response in the viewer. Because the truth is often stranger than fiction - in a way that shocks, entertains and delights! Most recently he edited 2 x half hour TV episodes of ABC’s SECRET SCIENCE (which you can stream for free in Australia on iView).
